Project

The Isère Amont project aims to secure, renovate and modernize public facilities and infrastructure along the Isère from Pontcharra to Grenoble in order to avoid water damage that would amount to 1 billion euros in the event of a major flood. This project involves 29 municipalities and 300,000 inhabitants and is led by Symbhi – Syndicat mixte des bassins hydrauliques de l’Isère. It aims to give space back to the river, enhance the natural environment and develop the use of the banks of the Isère.

The project is divided into 3 phases. The second and third phases concern 19 municipalities and will take place between 2015 and 2021. It aims to reduce the speed of the flow of the Isère in flood by improving the capacity of the bed and by making openings in the bed, to reinforce the dykes and build new structures, and to enhance the natural environment, in particular by developing various water bodies.
